Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Air terminal - the main air gate of the island-pisces

The largest aviation hub in the Far East is located on the largest island in Russia - Sakhalin. In winter, blizzards rage here, and in summer the expanses of the taiga and bamboo are warmed by the sun's rays, like in the subtropics. The island-fish is washed by two seas: the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan. Millions of tourists come to enjoy the beauty of these places every year. The first thing they see when they land is the sparkling Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport.

    Concept

Externally, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport resembles a sea wave. The smooth lines of the roof and the transparent facade create the effect of moving water. Inside, every detail also speaks of continuous movement and striving for height. When creating the concept, designers and architects were inspired by the flora and fauna of the island, therefore natural motifs prevail in the design. Lianas, bamboo, and fern thickets convey the atmosphere of the Sakhalin expanses. Airport History

The new airport terminal is one of Russia's most technologically advanced. Its services operate in a unified system, transmitting information promptly using domestic software. A baggage conveyor belt operates in the baggage claim area, equipped with 5 levels of security for handling. In 2022, Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands were visited by over 1.5 million people. The new terminal aims to increase this figure to 5 million.
